She was glamorous, sophisticated, and the embodiment of grace. For decades, she has been a style icon and has served as inspiration to women all around the globe. She's known for her LBDs and strands of pearls, and during her lifetime, she dazzled on and off the screen. She is Audrey Hepburn, and this is how you can dress like her.
Let's start with some dresses--notice that each of these four dresses share similar lengths & form-flattering silhouettes. Although dresses like this may be too dressy to wear to the office, each of them would be great for a date night or any formal event.
Inspiration behind these dresses? Holly Golightly, Breakfast at Tiffany's. With that being said, however, Audrey Hepburn was known for bringing her own style into the lives of the characters she played.
If taking Audrey to the office with you is what you want to do, this is the way to do it. Perhaps as much as the dresses she wore, Audrey was often photographed wearing pants and loafers. Comfortable, chic, and elegant, but simple and clean-cut. Here are a couple of ways to do just that with clothes that you most likely already have in your closet. These are timeless pieces that can be mixed & matched and worn through most seasons.
Bright colors were not often Audrey's first choice. She tended to stick to a neutral color palette, which offers effortless sophistication and the ability to easily mix and match just about any clothing to create endless ensembles.
However if color is something you cannot go without, rest assured--you can still easily achieve the Audrey Hepburn look, but with a little more pizazz. The prints & patterns are up to you; what we're really looking to Audrey for is silhouettes and accessories. Above are two very different dresses with very different accessories and shoes. Both dresses, however, could be mixed and matched with any of the accessories & shoes. If there's one thing that we should learn from Audrey, it's how to mix and match.
With most outfits, Audrey wore very minimal accessories. They were usually simple and classic, like a pair of diamond earrings. However, the occasional bold accessory, like a wide-brimmed hat, always went effortlessly with whatever outfit she was wearing. There were never any forced mixed prints or clashing silhouettes.
Last but certainly not least, this is a fun and casual way to dress like Audrey. Sticking to classic silhouettes, like straight-cut jeans and a simple quarter-sleeve shirt would do the trick, but why not have fun with some playful styles? Although vamped up a bit, these clothes still give very classic impressions. One thing that Audrey often wore is a pair of espadrilles. Have fun with a cute & summery pair, or stick to something a little more muted like a pair of suede mules. A pair of flats would be great, too! One thing that you absolutely can't go wrong with these days is a small scarf or bandana tied around your neck, which is a favorite look of ours that has been carried through decade after decade without a glitch. (Check out our YouTube channel for videos (like this one, and this one) about how to style scarves!)
Whether it's what you wear every day or if you're just looking to add a few pieces to your wardrobe at a time, you can never go wrong with Audrey Hepburn-inspired style. For decades, women have been looking to her for inspiration, and for many decades more, she will continue to serve as a style icon for anyone interested in a little black dress or elegant, Parisian-esque style.
